5 Food You Should Eat to Improve Your Overall Health

So often we hear that we must eat “more fruit and vegetables” if we want to live a longer, healthier life. One of the biggest issues with the average American diet, is that the excess of dairy products and red meat that we eat is associated with many life-threatening conditions such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, are full of healthy antioxidants and fibers, that also help us stave off obesity, especially for the less physically-active types. Eating better helps us live better and longer… and save a lot of money as well.

Switching our diet from burgers to cabbage, however, doesn’t seem a very… attractive choice, regardless of the apparent health benefits. Although some of these “bad” foods usually tend to be tastier than some raw lettuce, that’s not always the case. There’s a lot of tasty stuff out there which is packed with vitamins, healthy enzymes and a lot of other beneficial substances.

The best part?  Most of this stuff doesn’t even need to be cooked! Let’s have a look.

1.Almonds

Nothing makes a cake more tasty and appetizing than some sliced and caramelized almonds sprinkled on it! Almonds are an extremely rich source of Vitamin E and magnesium, that act in synergy to detoxify your body and slow down your aging processes. Known and appreciated through the whole Mediterranean regions, almonds are sweet and delicious and can be used to add a “crunchy” feeling to your morning fruit/veg smoothies.

  1. Bananas

Bananas are sweet fruits that can be used to make a quick snake instead of an ugly candy bar. They’re full of minerals such as potassium that can help your cardiovascular health, reduce insomnia and make you feel more relaxed. Bananas are also rich in fibers such as pectin and resistant starch that reduce your appetite and make you feel full for a lot of time.

If bananas aren’t a food you enjoy, Google ‘pharmacy near me’ to find a place to buy high quality vitamins.  Chances are, you can call and simply ask: ‘What supplement do you carry that provide the vitamins on bananas?’

3.Citrus fruits

Although citrus fruit has a distinctive sour taste and can increase stomach acidity, this effect is just temporary, as your body will be alkalinized on the long run. It’s useless to say how much Vitamin C is found in citrus fruit such as lemons, oranges, tangerines and grapefruits. Everyone knows how important this vitamin is to fight off stress, diseases and cancer, since it’s the most potent antioxidant ever. The good thing about citrus fruit, is that you can eat a lot of them rather quickly since you can squeeze them and drink their juice in a single gulp. Just remember that Vitamin C is very delicate: it rapidly deteriorates when exposed to oxygen, so the best way is to consume the juice as soon as it’s squeezed.

4.Apples

There’s a saying… an apple a day keeps the doctor away, it must be true right? Apples are highly digestible fruits full of fibers and alkaline juices that will help improve the health of your digestive tract. They can neutralize the acidity of many other foods such as meat or dairy products, help stimulate a good digestion, and contain many enzymes that deactivate several harmful substances such as food preservatives. So yes, you can (and probably should) eat them (almost) every day. And you can cook them too: you can bake them, stew them with some lemon juice or use them to make a wonderful apple pie!

5.Broccoli

Broccoli are often identified as the “ugliest” of all vegetables. This is mostly because they smell bad when cooked, because of the high concentration of a sulfur-rich compound known as sulforaphane. However, this substance is almost tasteless, and many studies found it can even protect you against cancer. Broccoli are sweet and delicious enough to be used in many creative ways, and that’s one of the reasons why they’re a staple of Italian cuisine. If you don’t like them, try to scour the web for new recipes: you probably don’t even imagine how versatile they can be!

Conclusion

There are literally millions of reasons we should all swap to healthier choices.  If a big diet change seems scary, try supporting your body with vitamins for memory loss and focus.  Often time during big nutritional changes, we need a boost of vitamins and minerals to adjust and stay focussed on our health goals.  Withdrawal from junk food and sugar can leave the body feel strained, but fear not! Healthier days are ahead.
